I have been teaching middle and high school English/language arts since 2015 and tutoring since 2019. I earned my Bachelors from Orebro University, my MA in English Studies from Mid Sweden University, and my MEd in Curriculum and Instruction: Secondary Language Arts from University of Oregon.

Tutoring Subjects:

I have tutored college-level English and essay writing including undergraduate, graduate, and PhD-level writing. During my teaching career I have taught middle school grammar, writing, reading, and speaking; high school grammar, writing reading, and speaking; presentation formatting; argumentative, expository, and narrative writing for middle, high, and college-level; fiction and non-fiction writing for middle, high, and college-level; business communication (WR101) for college-level; AP Composition and Literature (EN104/WR121) for high school and college-level including the five-page essay; high school journalism; English language development for middle and high school; Shakespeare; reading, writing, and comprehending poetry; speech and presentation skills; various middle, high, and college-level novels; and much more.

Ages I've Worked With:

I have worked with ages from 6th grade through adulthood one-on-one, in small groups, and in groups of up to 30 students.

My Tutoring Style:

My tutoring style is to figure out what you know, how you like to learn and express yourself, what interests you personally, and then mash all that information together to make your learning engaging. My ultimate goal is that you will leave every session feeling more confident and comfortable regardless of if we are talking about comma usage or writing a postgraduate thesis.

You will get multiple ways of expressing, applying, and building on knowledge you already have. If ever there is something I do not know, I look forward to learning alongside you as I believe that even as tutors, teachers, and highly proficient subject specialists, we can always learn more. If you need it to be less challenging, more challenging, ors as we say in Swedish, just "lagom," I will help you get to where you want to be.

It may sound strange, but my ultimate goal and hope is that you will no longer need my services because you will feel so confident in the skills you learn that you can spread your proverbial wings and fly on your own.

Success Story:

"I'm not good at writing and I hate English, but I'm taking this class because I like you."

You may have heard similar words before, but I almost guarantee that you did not hear it in the single most writing-intense college-level English class in the entire high school. I taught this student for a year prior to this class, establishing a bond with her and learning who she was. She became comfortable then in asking me to explain and, as a second-language speaker who used to struggle with understanding English writing, she found that my explanations worked well and broke things down thoroughly without seeming to dumb down the content.

Last year, she graduated after completing a very challenging class entirely by choice, producing reports, business memos, and presentations more confidently with every single assignment. The questions did not wane, but their nature changed. She asked for elaboration and ways of making the assignments her own rather than ways of understanding how to write.

Hobbies and Interests:

* Playing video and computer games (Mostly Diablo 3 with my Dominion's Revenge pet)

* Working out (Mostly plyometrics and tire flipping; the fun stuff)

* Working on projects, traveling, and riding ATVs with my husband

* English Etymology (Why do words look like they do? Also, did you know that "deer" comes from the word for "animal"?!)
