As a math teacher, I am proficient in communicating complex mathematical concepts to non-mathematicians using a variety of visual, auditory and tactile methods. As a tutor I have successfully taken students from the brink of failure to outstanding grades. I have a Master’s Degree in mathematics from the University of South Florida and I tutor grades 7 through college.

My tutoring style:

During the initial sessions, I evaluate each student for their current skill level and math concepts from previous courses can be woven into the lesson if necessary. Reading facial cues and body language is essential to adapt the lesson for each student. A blank stare lets me know the students does not understand the concept before they can verbalize their confusion. Many students come to tutoring because they say they are just not good at Math. After several sessions with me they discover that is not true. They just never had anyone explain concepts to them in a way that they learn. As a mathematician I can read through a solved problem and process the steps needed to replicate the solutions. For my tutoring students we write each step to the solution in words and create acronyms to remember concepts. This technique is a game changer.

Success story:

Joe was an older student returning to college. He was in a Business Calculus class and it was 20 years since he was in a math class. He needed an Algebra refresher along with the Calculus material. By following my study plan and working independently to refresh Algebra he passed the class with an A-.

Hobbies and interests:

I am a nature lover. My yard contains 15 bird feeders, native plants for bees and butter flies and well fed feral cats who sleep the day away.
