I am a certified teacher and administrator in South Dakota. I have several degrees in education and science and have been a teacher for over 12 years. I can tutor upper level students in multiple math and science subjects.
I'm an adaptive teacher that likes to make connections with his students to help facilitate learning. I am open to working with any type of learner and I can mesh well with nearly everyone. I like to make difficult subjects more understandable for all
I have helped numerous students throughout my tutoring and teaching career. Many of my students think they are not ready for a subject when we first meet but before to long they have mastered the subject. I have had multiple stories of helping students realize college can be an option for them.
Math Story:
I was working with a student that was struggling through Pre-Calculus and they were having a very difficult time with simplifying trigonometric functions. I used an Algebra expression as an example to show them that they are simply solving for "X" in their trig calculations. After some additional practice problems and a few reminders of how sine, cosine, and tangent work together, the lesson clicked with my student. The student went on to complete Pre-Calculus and is now a practicing medical professional.
Science Story:
Naming ionic compounds has always been a struggle for students and the rules for naming them are very numerous. One of my tutor students came in with a few questions related to naming transition metal ionic compounds, so I walked them through some examples. Their teacher's method for naming transition metals was clearly not clicking for them, so I showed them an alternative method of naming them that I used while teaching. The student immediately picked up on this new method and was correctly naming transition metal ionic compounds within minutes.
I love to hike, exercise, play video games, and spending time with my family.
