My journey into college admissions advising began when I successfully applied to U.S. universities from an international high school - without the help of a school counselor. I independently built my college list, categorized schools by reach, match, and safety, and was accepted into most of the institutions I applied to. Later, I used the same skillset to get into my dream university to pursue my master’s degree!
My success caught the attention of my high school, which invited me to guide the senior class through the U.S. college admissions process. That experience led to one-on-one mentoring, Common App navigation, and essay coaching for students from around the world. Last summer, I even taught a course on how to craft the perfect college admissions essay step-by-step. Thanks to my unique background, I understand how to help students figure out what they truly want out of college and feel confident and empowered through the admissions process.
I serve as a guide, mentor, and teacher throughout the college admissions journey. I believe in helping students brainstorm deeply, reflect on their stories, and realize their full potential. Each student’s journey is unique, and I work with them to understand which academic and social environments will allow them to thrive. I prioritize student voice in every application. This means not only completing checklists but building a narrative that feels authentic to who the student is.
Last summer, I worked with a student who was a first-generation college applicant with no guidance at home. They were unsure about where to start and what they wanted out of college. We began by exploring their personality, background, and goals to build a balanced school list. Through strategic support on applications and a compelling personal statement focused on a pivotal life moment tied to their dream job, they were ultimately accepted to their reach school.
In a previous case, I helped a student with a strong academic background that wasn’t quite sure what their personal narrative was. By working, we found a unifying story that reflected their passions. They were accepted into multiple competitive universities, including one they had almost written off as out of reach.
When I’m not tutoring, I’m likely on the treadmill, nose-deep in a book (on book 23 this year!), playing The Sims 4, or traveling with my husband. I also love animals—if you have a pet, I want to see them during our sessions! Please hold them up and tell me their name!
