Growing up I found math to be difficult, so I understand the feeling of frustration and discouragement that it can bring. After years of studying and practice, I became a math tutor and learned about number fluency. As a teacher and tutor my goal is to help students make the deep mathematical connections across that will help them succeed today and in the future.

I have worked with 5th grade up to 12th grade students.

My goal is to always meet the students where they are both as a person and in their studies. I love getting to know my students and using what they know to get them where they need to be. I like to connect mathematical content with intriguing questions or problems that get students interested and thinking. From there we connect the current mathematical concepts to create deep learning for the student.

I began working with a student who was not confident in her math skills and was quite shy. She often would not begin or attempt problems because she didn't know where to start and became easily frustrated. After a few months of work working with her on number fluency, problem solving skills, and getting to know her she transformed into a different student! During sessions we would talk more and more about her day and interests. Three months later I asked her to solve an open-ended problem, and I was so impressed with how she went about it, explained her work and the confidence in trying several strategies. Little did I know she also had a low grade in math when we started, her mother called me after the three months to tell me she felt confident in class and had raised her grade two letters.

I love being outdoors! I like to run, hike, snowboard, rock climb and recently started learning to skateboard. I also enjoy reading books and painting.
