I have more than 20 years of in-person and online tutoring and teaching experience working at multiple schools and universities.  I have a master's degree in mathematics education from Concordia University and I tutor grades PK-College

My tutoring style:

My style can be summed up by the mnemonic I have created for the term math, which is Mastering Artistic Thinking Habits.  I like to bring a collaborative and interactive experience for introducing new concepts. I have found that whether teaching elementary, middle, high school, or adult students, the style that works best for my learners is the one that they feel most comfortable using. It is my responsibility to be versatile and artistic in my teaching style, because what works for one student, may not work for another.

Success story:

Her name was Jada, and she was a sophomore in high school.  Her father warned me that she has already gone through several tutors and refused to work with anyone.  When I first met her, she did not smile.  She barely looked at me.  Me however, kept a big smile on my face and a positive attitude.  Eventually, my constant smile warmed her heart, and she opened up to me, asking me questions, moving forward in her homework, and we even started meeting more than once a week at her request!  I ended up tutoring her for the next three years of high school and one year of college.  I will never forget the year when she made me a gift for Christmas.  She worked at Target and created a bullseye card that said, "You were always on target with your tutoring" with a gift card to Target.  I asked her if she realized that she was giving a gift to her math tutor, and she gave me a nice sarcastic smirk and we laughed.  I was so touched and proud of how far we came not only in our tutoring, but in our relationship.

Hobbies and interests:

I love nature and would spend every moment I can outside, with my dog Cooper.  The two of us love to hit the local trails, and when we are home, my husband, Coop, and I love to play monkey in the middle on our many acres of farmland.  When Coop gets tired, because he is a mellow yellow, he will bask in his sandbox while I practice basketball.
