I started my career as an undergrad at UIUC for a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, and went on to join three different tech startups after graduation. The last of which was an online tutoring company called Arbor Tutors. After a chance occurrence of filling in as a tutor, I fell in love with the work and have been doing it full time ever since.

8-80! I’ve worked with people of all walks of life, from grade school all the way to working professionals trying to get into grad school.

I try to get every student into the mindset of “you are your own best teacher.” Self-learning is key when trying to accomplish big goals, and tutoring is a great way to guide and facilitate that. One of my main goals when working with a student is to build up their confidence so that this idea is the default rather than something out of reach. Once this idea is understood, most people can learn just about anything!

I was approached by a mother who had found difficulty looking for tutoring for her daughter in 3rd grade. She had significant issues with ADD and was acting out in class, so she wasn’t getting the attention she needed. We worked together on some exercises designed to get students more interested and thus more focused in their work. Many of the problems I created involved her dog or her large doll house - things which she loved and cared about. Her ability to focus on her work increased, and after only a couple months of tutoring she was getting A’s and B’s in class again. Even better, her acting out also noticeably decreased, possibly due to no longer being lost and confused about the in class work. She was so happy she hand made me a card with a cute drawing of herself doing some math problems.

I enjoy tennis, soccer, and chess. I also like board games and strategy games - Wingspan and Azul are some of my newer favorites.
