I didn’t really find my love of math and physics until I reached my junior year of high school. By then, I was way behind, and my learning disabilities (ADHD, dyslexia, dyscalculia) didn’t make it any easier to catch up. However, I hope to inspire the same passion that helped me in others and help them to overcome whatever challenges they may face.

Ages I've worked with:

I have worked with middle school through college aged students.

My tutoring style:

I try to emphasize my role as a tutor rather than a lecturer. This means that I like to keep my student engaged and talking the whole time and I like to get their feedback on how I’m explaining things. I also like my sessions to be student guided. This means that I don’t expect students to follow a strict schedule I lay out for them (unless that’s what they want). Instead, I match and reinforce what they are already being taught in school while making it easier to understand. This way, I make sure what I’m teaching is reinforced in class as well.

Success story:

I had a student that came to me at the beginning of her 11th grade year struggling with pre-calculus. This particular student also suffered from a variety of learning and physical disorders such as dyslexia and ADHD amongst others. She came in hating math, it being her worse subject and the only course she couldn’t pass. Over her 11th grade year, I managed to fill the gaps of knowledge she was missing and ultimately change her mind entirely now about math. So much so that she chose to go to college of engineering. That was 4 years ago, she’s now at the most prestigious engineering college in the state and I’m still tutoring her in her Differential Equations class. She’s brilliant and I’m so proud of her.

Hobbies and interests:

My hobbies are mainly in the realm of music and computers. I have been producing and mixing music for myself and local bands as a side project for a few years now. In terms of sports, the only sports I've ever been interested in are rock climbing and swimming. The former of which I've only recently picked up in the last year. In terms of other interests, I still do research in collaboration with two local university as well as NASA to study the effects of spaceflight astronauts, specifically how prolonged spaceflight missions affect their vision.
