I am a current 3rd year medical student with about 5 years of tutoring experience in Mathematics and Science. I have a B.S. in Biomedical Physics from Wayne State University, a M.S. in Medical and Biological Sciences from the University of Toledo, and I am currently attending the Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine for my Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree.
I firmly believe that to do well in any class, half the battle is understanding the topic being tested, and the other half is learning how to read and apply the concepts to the question. That is why I do practice questions with my students. Not only does it give my students the opportunity to utilize their newly learned ideas and grant confidence to keep using them, but it also gives me a chance to see how the student approaches a question and give feedback on their decision making. If need be, however, content review is always an option for some of the foundational concepts.
I used to tutor at a high school where many of the students were ESL. There was one in particular who was struggling in all of his subjects. I started to meet with him 3-4 times a week for about 5 months to help his major weak areas. In the end, he was able to get straight As.
Working out, learning the piano, and especially baking. Even though it takes a lot of time, the feeling of making bread from scratch will never get old.
