I am an experienced tutor and outdoor educator with over 2 years of experience in these fields combined. I tutor 3rd grade math through Algebra 1 and middle school through college-level English.

My Tutoring Style:

My broad range of educational experiences has made me an incredibly adaptable instructor. I ask students and parents about needs and goals, then adopt a unique strategy to meet them. When I see gaps in a student's fundamental skills or previous learning, I will pause and address those gaps to set the student up for success. I place a big emphasis on positive feedback and encouragement, and I make clear that mistakes are okay and valuable if we work to understand why we made them. I always strive to explain the "why" behind concepts so that the student is not just memorizing rules, but is truly understanding the material.

Success Story:

I worked intensively with an Algebra 1 student who was completing asynchronous, accelerated curriculum. We met 6 days a week for 2 hours each session, and every day was unique. Sometimes I developed a lesson plan to address gaps in his learning or a current specific struggle with the content, sometimes I elaborated upon the online lessons with additional explanations and examples, and sometimes we reviewed questions he missed on tests and quizzes. It was fulfilling to see him master concepts and solve problems that he previously thought he could never do, and he was able to complete his work with more confidence and went from getting C's on quizzes to getting A's.

Hobbies & Interests:

I enjoy doing almost anything outside, especially hiking, backpacking, and running. I'm also a creative person who loves to sing and write!
