I am a college instructor with a background in Mechanical Engineering and experience teaching and tutoring mathematics across a wide range of grade levels. I have worked with students from 3rd grade through the college level, supporting learners with varying academic needs and abilities. My engineering background provides me with a strong foundation in mathematical reasoning, analytical thinking, and problem-solving, which I use to help students better understand challenging concepts and strengthen their confidence in math.
My tutoring style focuses heavily on understanding how each student learns best. I take the time to identify a student’s strengths, challenges, preferences, and existing knowledge so I can tailor my approach to their individual needs.
From there, I introduce different teaching methods and explanations, helping students connect new material to concepts they already understand. I encourage students to share which approaches make the most sense to them, and I adapt our sessions accordingly. My goal is to create a personalized and collaborative learning experience that helps students better understand the material, build confidence, and develop strategies that work for them.
One of my proudest accomplishments as a math tutor was helping a student regain confidence in his own abilities. His parents initially reached out because math was one of his most challenging subjects. Together, we identified how he learned best, developed new study strategies, and connected unfamiliar math concepts to skills he already understood.
Over time, his understanding and confidence began to grow. One of our most exciting milestones came when he earned his first A+ on a math test. More importantly, he began to see himself as someone who was capable of succeeding in math. With greater confidence in himself and encouragement from his family, he is now taking some of the most challenging courses available to him in high school and approaching them with confidence and a smile.
Outside of tutoring, many of my hobbies center around spending time with friends, whether we’re playing Dungeons & Dragons or enjoying video games together. I also enjoy creative activities, including drawing in a sketchbook or creating digital art on my tablet. Every so often, I even revisit different math topics to keep my skills sharp and stay up to date!
