I am a certified teacher with extensive experience leading classrooms teaching Mathematics, English and Science to elementary and middle school students. I have two bachelor's degrees from the University of Texas and I tutor high school students.

Tutoring Style

I take a very measured approach to teaching my students, by going slow and providing knowledge checks to ensure that they understand not just 'how' to do something, but the 'why' behind it: to better rationalize the meaning beyond memorization or just taking actions in sequence.

Success Story

In about my third year of teaching, I had a young man in my 7th class who was convinced he wasn't intelligent. He was struggling with multiple subjects, and had no plans for the future - he didn't bother discussing college or his dreams because he felt that he wasn't smart enough for either. I worked with him after school three days a week with permission from his parents. He improved across the board and overall was a happier student. He has gone on to excel in science and just last year I heard he had been accepted into Rutgers University on a scholarship!

Math:

Three years ago, one of my math students came to me feeling completely stuck with fractions and ratios. They avoided word problems and often froze during tests. Over a few months of focused practice and confidence-building strategies, they began breaking problems down step by step. By the end of the term, they raised their test scores by two letter grades and, more importantly, started volunteering answers in class—something they’d never done before.

Science:

A science student I worked with struggled to connect concepts from lectures to labs and quizzes. Together, we focused on understanding why experiments worked instead of memorizing facts. As their conceptual understanding grew, so did their curiosity. They went from barely passing assessments to earning consistent B+ and A grades, and their teacher noted a big improvement in their lab reports and class participation.

ELA:

One ELA student started tutoring with weak reading comprehension and a strong dislike for writing. We worked on close reading strategies, vocabulary in context, and organizing ideas before writing. Gradually, their essays became clearer and more confident. By the end of the year, they earned one of the highest scores on their writing assessment and told me they finally felt proud of their work.

Hobbies & Interests

I enjoy working with my hands and building small scale models of ships, buildings, cars, etc.
