I am a certified science teacher with more than 20 years of teaching experience, working with students across a wide range of academic levels, from middle school through college and nursing school. My background includes serving as an adjunct instructor in nursing education, allowing me to bring extensive experience in both foundational and advanced science instruction. For the past five years, I have specialized in virtual education, teaching in both synchronous (live) and asynchronous learning environments, including interactive classes conducted through Google Meet. This experience has strengthened my ability to deliver engaging, accessible instruction while adapting to the unique needs of online learners. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Biology from Norfolk State University and my Master of Public Health from Capella University. I tutor students in grades 6 through college, helping them strengthen their understanding of scientific concepts, develop critical-thinking skills, and build confidence in their academic abilities.
My tutoring style is student-centered, engaging, and adaptable to each learner’s individual needs. I believe in meeting students where they are academically and adjusting my instructional strategies to help them build understanding, confidence, and the skills necessary for success.
I incorporate a variety of interactive and creative teaching methods, including visuals, educational games, and songs, to make challenging scientific concepts more approachable and memorable. I also enjoy using virtual lab simulations and interactive experiments to help students explore scientific principles in a hands-on way, even in an online learning environment.
By connecting scientific concepts to real-world examples and everyday experiences, I help students recognize the relevance of what they are learning. My goal is to create a supportive, engaging, and interactive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, actively participating, and developing a deeper understanding and appreciation of science.
One of my favorite teaching success stories comes from my time as an instructor at a local nursing school, where I had the opportunity to work with a group of nursing students who were initially nervous about studying Anatomy and Physiology. The extensive amount of information, complex terminology, and detailed understanding required for each body system felt overwhelming to many of them.
To help make the material more approachable, I incorporated visual learning strategies, concept maps, and creative memory techniques, including songs that helped students remember anatomical structures and important terminology. Rather than simply memorizing information, I encouraged them to recognize connections between different body systems and understand how the human body functions as a whole. These strategies helped make challenging concepts easier to understand, retain, and apply.
Although I am no longer teaching at that nursing school, one of the most rewarding moments came when these former students reached out to share that they were graduating earlier this year. Knowing that I had played a role in supporting their academic journey and helping them build the foundation for their future careers in nursing was incredibly meaningful.
Experiences like this reinforce my belief that creative instruction, personalized support, and meaningful connections between concepts can make even the most challenging scientific subjects accessible and engaging. My goal is always to help students move beyond memorization toward genuine understanding, confidence, and long-term academic success.
Outside of teaching and tutoring, I enjoy expressing my creativity through paint nights and listening to good music, especially relaxing violin instrumentals. I also love exploring new hobbies and recently started learning how to sew and bake bread from scratch. I enjoy activities that allow me to unwind, learn new skills, and embrace my creative side.
