Steven

I am a tutor working since 2019 with experience as a high school math and science teacher working abroad in Bangkok, Thailand. I have tutored students of all ages and backgrounds to improve their math skills and instill confidence in their problem solving abilities. I have a bachelor's degree from the University of Florida in Industrial and Systems Engineering and I tutor grades 7-College in math.

Tutoring Style

I am very passionate about the subjects I teach and am eager to share that passion with my students. My engineering degree and background as a science teacher helps me understand how math is related to the world we live in and how we can use it in our everyday lives. I adapt my teaching style to meet students where they are at, helping to fill in any gaps in understanding that prevents them from confidently being able to tackle problems. My goal is to build that confidence at every step so that the student can learn to approach problems on their own and find joy in doing math as I have.

Success Story

My favorite success story is a middle school student that I taught for over 2 years. When I first started tutoring her, she struggled a lot in her Algebra class. She wasn't sure how to go from one step to the next and was very shy to work with me as she had little confidence in her math ability. I continued to meet with her twice a week throughout her Geometry and then Algebra II classes to build her foundational skills and work through new concepts together. By the end of my time tutoring her, she hardly needed my help as she gained the ability to approach any new problem all on her own and was no longer shy and scared of math anymore.
