I have been a tutor since 2019, providing instruction both in-person and online in Math and Computer Science. I tutor elementary through college. I have a bachelor's degree in Computer Science from Georgia Institute of Technology.

Tutoring Style

As a tutor, my goal is always to attain the highest level of understanding, rather than just getting students to the point where they can complete a problem. Therefore, I approach concepts from many different angles, leading students to not only learn HOW to do a problem but also to understand WHY they are getting certain outcomes. I’ve found that this application-based learning was the best way to enhance students' engagement and confidence in their academics.

Success Story

Math:

My favorite success story was with a student I connected with midway through her semester, as she struggled to keep up with her College Algebra course load and felt she'd have to drop the class. I quickly realized her issue was not simply catching up with assignments, but rather with the foundational math concepts. Therefore, I adapted our sessions so that each meeting began with reviewing math concepts and going through example questions, both together and individually. Only after she was comfortable with the given concept would we go over her assignment. This approach allowed her to learn the necessary math concepts over time rather than overwhelming her to catch up all at once, and ultimately led her to pass the course she thought she would have to drop.

Computer Science:

I began working with a college student taking an Introduction to Computer Science class; it was his first time programming, and he was struggling to follow the Python concepts in the fast-paced course. It became clear to me that his issue wasn't the programming concepts being covered, but rather understanding how his programs worked. This led me to introduce tracing- following a program's actions step by step. Taking the time to learn and practice tracing allowed my student to understand why his code took certain actions, leading him to write unique code and debug with ease. Through this, he began to truly enjoy programming and went on to minor in Computer Science.

Hobbies & Interests

Outside of tutoring, I'm a big nature person and can often be found on hikes to explore new areas. In my more relaxed time, I also enjoy cooking and pottery.
