I am a certified teacher with bachelor degrees in both Mathematics and Music from Louisiana State University. I have been teaching and tutoring grades 3 thru College for over 10 years. I have had the great opportunity to teach elementary, middle, high school, college, and adult learners in all math subjects as well as Mathematics Test Prep for the SAT, ACT, CLEP tests and more. I'm dedicated to helping students develop a growth mindset to improve their skills and be successful.

My tutoring style:

My approach to tutoring is centered on the individual student’s needs. Before we begin working on math, I build up a rapport with the student by addressing how they feel about their mathematical ability and how succeeding in math can help them achieve their future goals. I continually ask probing questions throughout the session, but try my best to have the student take the lead when we are problem-solving. By allowing the student the freedom to choose the direction of how we solve a problem, their motivation and confidence will improve. I also ensure the student understands that our sessions are a safe space to make mistakes and that mistakes are essential for their personal growth as a math student. I have the student pinpoint, analyze, and correct their mistakes throughout our sessions. My goal is to help the student become self-sufficient and confident, not only in their math abilities but their learning style as well.

Success story:

One of my students needed to prepare for SAT Math, but has also struggled with time management skills and managing stress during exams. We worked together to help her gain more exposure to the style of questioning the SAT uses for math, hone her time management skills by developing a system for how to best approach the questions, and building her confidence through time, patience, and practice. Ultimately, this helped her get her desired score and she is now headed to Cornell! I couldn’t be more proud.
