I am a certified math teacher with more than 25 years of experience in traditional and online classrooms teaching math to middle and high school students. I have a bachelor's and master's degree from Penn State University and I tutor grades 7 - 12.
I am a devoted teacher who is patient, supportive, and encouraging. Above all, I want my students to feel comfortable asking questions and confident making mistakes as part of the learning process. As a visual learner myself, I enjoy breaking down abstract concepts into clear, understandable steps using diagrams, models, and manipulatives. I adapt my teaching style to each student’s needs and work to create an engaging environment where students can build both skills and confidence.
One of my favorite tutoring success stories is about a student I currently work with as a math interventionist. At the beginning of the year, he was extremely reluctant to work with me and had a very negative attitude toward math. Over time, as his confidence grew, his mindset completely changed — not only about math, but possibly about math teachers in general! Recently, his mom texted me saying, “He said you are the best teacher he has ever had — and that’s high praise coming from him!” He now reaches out whenever he has questions and has raised his math grade from a D to a B.
Outside of teaching, I love spending time with animals and volunteer every Saturday at a rescue where I walk dogs. I enjoy being outdoors, especially hiking and staying active. I’m also a fitness instructor and teach classes such as Step, Zumba, toning, and yoga, which allows me to combine fitness with having fun and connecting with others. In my downtime, I enjoy watching movies, reading on my Kindle, and trying new restaurants and unique foods.
