I am a nurturing, traditional educator and have been tutoring grades 6-12 for more than a decade. I worked in public education for 10 years and I have a bachelor's degree in social sciences from Brandman University. My students say I listen well and am spontaneous and fun.

My tutoring style:

I am organized and patient. I get to know my students and their learning style. All students are capable of learning and succeeding and every student has varying learning styles and previous learning experiences that influence how and at what rate they comprehend the material (especially math). As a tutor/teacher, I continuously assess those needs and am flexible while personalizing their learning. This includes my overall pacing, the amount of content I go over during a given session, and the teaching methods I employ.

Success story:

I have learned over the years that most students who dislike math do so because there is a lack of understanding of skills and concepts. Once there's an understanding of the concepts the dislike is replaced with toleration, which leads to to an "I can do it" spirit instead of "I can't" and sometimes math becomes a favorite.

My best successes are those students who were able to break through the "I hate math" wall into the "I can do it" mindset and eventually into "I like math." I worked with a student who absolutely hated math. After tutoring with me he told his mom that he loved math. The student is now very successful in math.

Hobbies and interests:

I enjoy spending time with family, especially my 3 grandchildren. I like to fish and talk long walks with my dog Harley. I love BBQing and watching my family enjoying the grilled and smoked foods.
