As a former child actor turned writer, documentary researcher, and educator, I’ll be the first to admit: I wasn’t exactly the average kid. I’ve worked hard over the years, but as these years have passed, I’ve come to realize just how crucial certain role models proved to be -- helping me get into Brown University and create a host of my own artistic endeavors. The guidance of my own mentors led me down a path I couldn’t be prouder to have embarked upon; as your college counselor, I'll provide you the resources and sense of support I was fortunate enough to receive.
Both my extensive training in executive functioning skills and my time as a teacher in one-to-one learning environments have allowed me to help my students combat feelings of anxiety or doubt as they embark upon the college application process. I encourage students to examine their own lives, interests and passions and incorporate them into this process directly; to choose a college is to navigate a sea of opportunity, and inside each student is a compass made from their individual skills and personal strengths. Whether revising college essays or exploring aspects of campus life, I employ forward thinking and a personable nature with each and every student I see.
I helped a student not only get into their dream school of Georgia Tech, but helped them discover a new pathway in their field of choice that aligned with their personal interests more than their initial chosen major. Helping students figure out how to communicate what they want (and discover what that is to begin with) is my favorite part of the process, and I was delighted to help a student pinpoint his interests in computers to hardware-specific programs / help him revise his essays to communicate a more emotional core. We met 2-3 times a week to really dig into the intricacies of a "reflective essay." He's headed there this fall, and I couldn't be more happy for him.
I am a history fanatic and I'm absolutely obsessed with movies/tv. You can absolutely find me watching a 1940s classic or reading a nonfiction book on some bizarro trend in the Middle Ages. I also am a horrendously amateurish surfer and something of a gamer from time to time.
