I am a certified teacher with years of experience teaching and tutoring. I am a licensed ENL teacher that has taught PreK-12 students in New York City public schools. I have a master's degree in teaching from the School of Education at CUNY, Hunter College, and I tutor grades K-College.
What I love most about teaching and tutoring is connecting with my students, and I believe that this reflects in my tutoring style. I like to find what my students are interested in and adapt the lessons to make the material relatable to them, which is what keeps them engaged. I am patient and ensure that my students grasp the required concepts before moving on to other standards. I also adapt my style to the learning style of my students and try to teach in the learning style that best suits them.
As an ENL teacher at an elementary school, most of my students at the beginning of the year know very little English and feel very shy participating in their main classrooms. One of my favorite success stories was with a fourth-grade student from Ghana who had just moved to New York. She was very quiet and didn't speak any English, but over the academic year and throughout our English classes she became eager to learn and excited to participate in all her other classes. Over time she felt more comfortable speaking and participating in front of her non-ENL peers, and by the end of the year she became the top student of her fourth grade class!
I am a musician that composes and produces all types of different music, ranging from classical symphonies to lofi-hiphop beats and songs. When I'm not playing an instrument or making music, I enjoy biking, playing sports, drawing, and cooking.
