I am a certified teacher with over 15 years of experience with teaching and tutoring a variety of Math subjects, including Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, and Statistics. I have a bachelor's degree from Loyola University Chicago and two master's degrees, one for educational technology from Aurora University and one for Curriculum and Instruction with ESL Endorsement from Concordia University Chicago.
I am an easy going teacher who enjoys all that math offers. One of the things I like the most about tutoring is that I get to work with you one-on-one and get a full understanding of what you need help with. My main focus is making sure you understand the concept as a whole and not just individual problems, and I am very adaptable when it comes to personalizing tutoring.
One of my favorite tutoring success stories started back when I was helping friends out with their math classes. I was the go to person for a lot of people when they needed help. One of my friends struggled in Calculus, but I was able to meet with him consistently throughout the semester and was able to help him get up to a B in the class. Experiences like that led me to pursue teaching as a career.
More recently, I was recommended to help a student with Geometry because he was an EL student who had some speech difficulties. While working on some problems analyzing rigid motions, I focused on helping him first define rigid motions, then worked on how to identify them. He quickly recognized that the motions are the same size and shape before and after the transformation. Once he correctly identified them, we then worked on creating an in depth explanation for his reasoning. I started the first couple questions with some sentence starters and he did very well writing out the reasoning in detail. By the end of the session, he seemed to grasp the ideas of rigid motions very well and was also correctly identifying the type of transformations with well written explanations.
I enjoy video games, board games, woodworking, crocheting, reading, and seeing a variety of movies and shows. Above all, I just try to enjoy the time I spend with my family.
