I am a certified teacher with a California Multiple Subject Teaching Credential and more than 12 years of experience in education, with a strong tutoring focus on high school mathematics. I hold a master’s degree in Psychology Research from San Diego State University and bring a background in social-emotional learning to my work with students. This combination of academic and educational experience allows me to support students in strengthening their math skills, building confidence, and developing effective learning strategies.
I adapt my teaching style to each student’s individual needs, using a gradual release approach where I first model a skill, we practice it together, and then the student applies it independently. This ensures students feel supported while developing the skills to work confidently on their own. I create an individualized learning plan for every student rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all approach, adjusting the pace and instruction based on what works best for them.
When a student gets stuck, I use guiding questions to encourage critical thinking and problem-solving rather than immediately providing the answer. I also focus my feedback on effort, growth, and the learning process, not simply whether an answer is correct. Ultimately, my goal is for students to leave every session more confident, capable, and independent—not just more correct.
One of my favorite tutoring success stories involved a 10th-grade student who came to me struggling significantly in Integrated Math 1. He was missing key foundational skills, which made much of the course material feel overwhelming. We started by gamifying foundational concepts to make learning more approachable and rebuild his confidence before progressing to more challenging material.
As his skills strengthened, so did his willingness to tackle unfamiliar problems, take academic risks, and learn from mistakes without fear. Through consistent, intensive tutoring, he made an incredible transformation, going from failing the course with an F to earning an A. Watching him go from avoiding math altogether to confidently embracing and even enjoying the challenge was one of the most rewarding transformations I have been a part of.
When I’m not tutoring, you’ll usually find me outdoors hiking, practicing yoga, or playing sports. Staying active and spending time in nature are important parts of my life. I enjoy bringing that same sense of teamwork, positive energy, and enthusiasm into my tutoring sessions.
