I am a certified Science and Special Education teacher with three years of experience who is currently completing a physics graduate degree at the University of Memphis. I have a bachelor's degree in physics and expect to earn my Master's degree in May of 2027. I tutor Math and Science to students from 6th grade through College.
I tend to ask students what they feel they need from a tutor. They may want me to simply be a check on their work, or they may need more help with where to begin. That being said, I try my best to let a student go as far as they can and allow time for them to recognize any mistakes on their own. If a student has no idea of how to start, I will typically run through an example problem before continuing.
Science:
Last semester, I had a high school physics student come to me who was complaining of a particularly difficult instructor. He was not performing well on the quizzes (as well as the first test) the instructor had given thus far and was worried of falling behind. He came to me at the start of the kinematics unit of the class and at the end of the unit, he had the second highest score in the class.
Math:
One of my best success stories in tutoring mathematics was a high school athlete who was struggling to earn a passing grade in a high school calculus course that was causing the student to worry about their continued eligibility to play on their team. By the end of the semester, this student was well above passing to the point that they were no longer worried about earning a passing grade even during finals.
- I play Dungeons and Dragons (and other TTRPG's) - I enjoy video games such as Elden Ring, Outer Wilds, and Stardew Valley - I am slow, but read often and a wide variety of genres.
