I am a mathematics tutor with more than 20 years of experience helping students strengthen their mathematical understanding, improve their academic performance, and develop lasting confidence in their abilities. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Iona University and have dedicated my career to making mathematics more approachable, engaging, and accessible to learners of all skill levels. I specialize in Algebra, Geometry, Precalculus, AP Calculus AB/BC, and SAT/ACT Math preparation, providing individualized instruction that helps students master foundational concepts while developing the critical-thinking and problem-solving skills necessary for more advanced coursework. Throughout my tutoring career, I have worked with students across a wide range of academic abilities, from those needing additional support with fundamental mathematical concepts to advanced learners preparing for college-level mathematics. My extensive experience allows me to identify learning gaps, simplify complex topics, and adapt instruction to each student's unique strengths and challenges. My goal is to help students achieve more than improved grades or higher test scores. I strive to build mathematical confidence, encourage independent problem-solving, and develop a strong foundation for long-term academic success.

Tutoring Style

My tutoring approach is individualized, structured, and closely aligned with each student’s classroom curriculum, assignments, and assessments. I believe effective mathematics instruction begins with understanding each student's strengths, identifying gaps in foundational knowledge, and developing a personalized approach that supports their academic goals.

Rather than encouraging students to simply memorize formulas and procedures, I emphasize understanding the reasoning behind mathematical concepts and recognizing how different ideas connect. I break down challenging problems into clear, manageable steps, adjusting my explanations, instructional strategies, and pace to match each student's level of understanding.

I also believe that active participation is essential to meaningful learning. I encourage students to ask questions, explain their thought processes, and work through problems with increasing independence. By providing guidance, constructive feedback, and consistent encouragement, I help students strengthen their analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities.

My ultimate goal is to create a supportive and confidence-building learning environment where students feel comfortable tackling challenging material, develop a deeper understanding of mathematics, and gain the skills necessary to become independent, capable, and successful learners.

Success Story

One of my most rewarding tutoring experiences has been helping students achieve significant improvements on the SAT Math section, often transforming both their test performance and their confidence in mathematics. Throughout my career, I have worked with students who initially struggled with standardized testing but were determined to strengthen their skills and reach their academic goals.

I have helped students increase their SAT Math scores by as much as 120 points, including several who began with scores in the upper 500s and ultimately achieved scores in the 700s. Through individualized instruction, targeted skill development, and effective test-taking strategies, I help students identify areas for improvement, strengthen foundational mathematical concepts, and approach challenging questions with greater accuracy and confidence.

My approach emphasizes understanding mathematical reasoning, recognizing problem-solving patterns, and developing efficient strategies for managing time and avoiding common mistakes. By tailoring each session to a student's specific needs, I help them make meaningful progress while building the skills necessary for success beyond standardized testing.

Over the years, I have helped students achieve SAT Math scores as high as 780, an accomplishment that reflects their dedication, perseverance, and growing mathematical abilities. While these score improvements are exciting, the most fulfilling part of tutoring is watching students gain confidence in their abilities and recognize their own academic potential.

These experiences reinforce my belief that with personalized guidance, consistent practice, and the right strategies, students can overcome challenges and achieve remarkable academic growth.

Hobbies & Interests

Outside of tutoring, I enjoy listening to music, especially classic rock and hip-hop. I also have a strong interest in technology and enjoy exploring new tools, innovations, and creative ways to make learning more interactive and engaging. I appreciate opportunities to combine my curiosity about technology with my passion for education, continually discovering new ways to enhance the learning experience.
