I am a CRLA Level 2 Certified Tutor and a graduate of the University of Arizona, where I earned dual degrees in Neuroscience & Cognitive Science and Psychological Sciences. I have more than two years of tutoring experience across Math, Biology, Chemistry, and Psychology. My experience includes Pre-Algebra, arithmetic fundamentals, Pre-Calculus, and Statistics; middle school through AP and college-level Biology; introductory through General and Organic Chemistry; and high school through college-level Psychology. As a recent graduate, I bring a firsthand understanding of today’s academic environment and the challenges students may encounter. I am passionate about making complex material approachable and helping students develop confidence, curiosity, and a genuine love of learning rather than fear of challenging subjects.
I believe the easiest things to remember are stories, so that idea is at the heart of how I teach. Rather than presenting concepts in isolation, I break material into digestible pieces that connect and build upon one another like chapters in a book, helping complex subjects feel more logical, approachable, and memorable.
Every tutoring session is a collaboration—we are on the same team. We work through challenges together using creative explanations and real-world examples that help even abstract concepts stick. I adapt my approach to each learner and enjoy exploring different explanations, perspectives, and strategies until we find the one that works best for them.
Above all, I value clear communication and a judgment-free learning environment where students feel comfortable being curious, making mistakes, and asking questions. No question is too small or outside the scope of learning, and my goal is for every student to feel supported, understood, and confident enough to keep exploring.
One of my most rewarding tutoring experiences began with a first-year university student who was considering changing her major from Biochemistry because of her struggles with General Chemistry. Rather than jumping immediately into content review, I spent our first sessions identifying the source of the difficulty. It became clear that the issue was not her effort or ability—she needed a more visual and connected way to understand abstract concepts.
I redesigned our sessions around charts, drawings, and storytelling, helping her build the mental models she needed to make the material click. The change was transformative. She chose to remain in Biochemistry, successfully progressed to Organic Chemistry, and is now pursuing Pharmaceutical Sciences.
I saw a similar transformation with a high school student who was frustrated with trigonometry. He understood more than he realized, but he was trying to solve problems entirely in his head, which led to avoidable mistakes and declining confidence. After identifying mental overload and focus as key challenges, I introduced a consistent strategy: drawing the unit circle before beginning related problems. Giving him that visual reference allowed him to work more carefully and confidently. By the end of the semester, his grade had improved from a C- to an A-.
Experiences like these reinforce my belief that effective tutoring is about identifying what is preventing a student from succeeding and finding the strategy that unlocks their understanding. Sometimes a different explanation, visual tool, or learning approach can completely change how a student sees both the subject and their own abilities.
Outside of tutoring, I enjoy staying active through hiking, biking, and working out at the gym, balanced with creative outlets like painting, sketching, and reading. I have also trained as a dancer for more than 13 years and have experience choreographing and teaching dance. I love discovering new music and finding inspiration for new pieces. When I’m relaxing, I enjoy a great thriller, college basketball season, and the satisfying challenge of a cryptic crossword or a good puzzle.
