I am a certified mathematics teacher with 33 years of teaching experience at the middle school and high school levels. Throughout my career, I have dedicated myself to helping students strengthen their mathematical understanding, develop effective problem-solving skills, and build confidence in their academic abilities. In addition to my extensive classroom experience, I have been teaching and tutoring mathematics in online learning environments since 2008, giving me a strong background in both traditional and virtual instruction. This experience has allowed me to adapt my teaching strategies to meet the needs of diverse learners while making challenging mathematical concepts more accessible and engaging. My goal is to provide patient, individualized, and supportive instruction that helps students overcome learning challenges, master essential mathematical skills, and develop the confidence and independence necessary for long-term academic success.

My tutoring style is enthusiastic, adaptable, and focused on making mathematics both understandable and enjoyable. I believe that every student has the ability to succeed in math when provided with the right guidance, encouragement, and instructional approach. I strive to create a positive and engaging learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, exploring new concepts, and building confidence in their abilities.

Drawing on my 33 years of teaching experience, I tailor my explanations, instructional strategies, and pacing to meet each student's individual learning needs. I recognize that students approach mathematics differently, so I use clear explanations, step-by-step guidance, and alternative problem-solving methods to help make challenging topics more accessible and easier to understand.

I also believe that learning should be an enjoyable and rewarding experience. By encouraging active participation and celebrating progress, I help students develop a more positive relationship with mathematics while strengthening their foundational knowledge and critical-thinking skills.

My ultimate goal is to help students develop a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts, gain confidence in their problem-solving abilities, and achieve lasting academic success.

Success Story

One of my most rewarding tutoring success stories involved working with a student with autism who was enrolled in my online Pre-Calculus course. The student initially struggled with understanding certain mathematical concepts and navigating the structure and expectations of the course. Recognizing the importance of individualized support, we began meeting online at least once a week to review lessons, address questions, and develop strategies that would help the student succeed.

During our sessions, I encouraged the student to actively work through course material while asking questions in real time. When challenging mathematical concepts arose, I provided clear explanations and demonstrated multiple problem-solving methods, allowing the student to choose the approach that felt most comfortable and effective. This helped the student develop a stronger understanding of the material while gaining greater independence in solving problems.

I also supported the student with understanding course expectations, organizing assignments, and breaking larger tasks into smaller, more manageable steps. By simplifying instructions and providing a clear path forward, I helped make the coursework feel more approachable and less overwhelming.

Throughout our time together, I witnessed a remarkable improvement in the student's confidence, mathematical understanding, and overall academic performance. With consistent support and growing independence, the student successfully completed the Pre-Calculus course with an A grade.

While earning an A was a wonderful accomplishment, the most meaningful part of this experience was seeing the student develop a genuine understanding of mathematical concepts and greater confidence in navigating academic expectations independently. This experience reinforced my belief that patient instruction, individualized learning strategies, and a supportive environment can empower students of all learning abilities to achieve academic success.

Hobbies & Interests

Outside of teaching and tutoring, I enjoy staying busy with a variety of activities and interests. From March through October, I operate an açaí bowl food truck, which allows me to combine my entrepreneurial spirit with my love of food. I also enjoy spending quality time with my wife, whether we're traveling, exploring new places, or relaxing with a good movie. I'm an avid sports fan and love attending live sporting events or watching games on TV. When time allows, I enjoy cooking and baking, as well as playing with our dog, Olive, who brings plenty of joy and entertainment to our lives.
