I am a dynamic International Educator and Global Citizen with over 15 years of diverse experiences teaching, coaching, and leading students across the world. My areas of specialization include English Language Arts, Speech & Debate/Public Speaking, Leadership Development, Geography, and College/University Admissions Essay Writing. I am a proud graduate of Howard University in Washington, DC where I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Broadcast Journalism and Sociology.

My Tutoring Style:

I am a high-energy and passionate educator that takes pride in uplifting and inspiring each of my students to actualize their greatest potential. I use multiple strategies to engage students, including my primary strategy of building a strong rapport allowing them to feel my enthusiasm for working with them. In addition, I give students the opportunity to talk about themselves (their passions, their goals, and their challenges) while curating a nurturing and safe environment for them to do so. I know that when students feel understood they are more likely to remain engaged and adhere to feedback they are given.

Success Story:

I began assisting students in College Admissions while working with a national experiential leadership organization that curated college/university tours across the country. In this role, I supported high school students in: 1) Identifying their "best match" colleges/universities; 2) Gaining clarity around their major (subject of focus); and 3) Crafting application essay narratives while strengthening their writing approach. It has been fulfilling to have students who I mentored reach out to me years later and share their success stories - from graduating high school a year early to getting into their choice university and thriving on campus! This work never ceases to amaze me!

Hobbies & Interests:

I love traveling and have extensive experience living and working across 6 continents! My inaugural global citizen leap led me to rural Fujisaki, Japan where I served as an English Instructor in the Japan Exchange & Teaching (JET) Program for 2 years. I was the only foreigner in Fujisaki. The experience taught me how much I stood to gain by immersing myself in other cultures AND how much I stood to teach about my culture as an American. The success of my time in Japan inspired me to venture to Nairobi, Kenya where I studied Social Entrepreneurship at The Amani Institute. Upon falling in love with the country, two months of studying evolved into me living there for 4 years during which I taught "Confidence in Communication" to students from over 30 countries, delivered a TEDx Talk ("Debunking Stereotypes through Global Citizenship"), and hosted my own travel TV show (Jabari Inspires). Most recently, I was based in Latin America for 3 years between Quito, Ecuador; Medellín, Colombia; and Mexico City, Mexico. During this time, I worked as a Neurodevelopmental Coach & Instructor for Neuro-development of Words - NOW! through which I taught students from across the world English language and reading comprehension. These students all had learning disabilities associated with speech, critical thinking, and language.
