I am a certified teacher with 9 years of experience in science education, including 5 years as a middle and high school science teacher instructing Chemistry, Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Environmental Science, and Life Sciences. I hold a bachelor’s degree in Wildlife Biology and a master’s degree in Education, both from the University of California, Davis. I teach grades 6 through college.
As a tutor, I seek to meet students where they are, first identifying areas of struggle and the roadblocks preventing understanding, then using creative, tailored learning strategies to help them grasp the content in a way that makes sense to them. I incorporate real-world examples and support students as they practice problems with me until they build confidence.
My favorite tutoring success stories are when students grow in self-confidence and realize they are more than capable of excelling in challenging material. One of my previous chemistry students struggled with the mathematical calculations required in the class, but through regular work together and the use of visuals and new approaches to understanding the math, the skills she developed with me also helped her succeed in her math classes.
I am a huge science nerd and especially love marine biology and invertebrate marine life. I also enjoy reading fantasy and science fiction, drawing and painting, and creating mystery and escape room games for friends.
