I am a recently retired teacher with 39 years of teaching experience. I've spent the majority of my experience teaching Middle School Science. I have a Master's degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago and took my Science courses at Northwestern University. Early in my career I was accepted to Dental School but I decided to remain in Education. Since then, I've had the honor of teaching students of many backgrounds and needs.
I break down concepts to its simplest form and try to use real world examples to help develop student understanding. I try to make sure that my students are relaxed and encouraged to ask questions whenever something is not fully understood.
I recall tutoring a 6th grader who attended a private school and had some difficulties remaining on task and was struggling with his Math class. We met once each week and it was necessary to have breaks every 15 minutes. We used an egg timer to time out a 3 minute break. After a month of this, he was able to return to working after each break more readily and his grades eventually improved. Additionally, I was twice nominated for teacher of the year in my district and was once nominated for the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Math, Science and Technology.
Chess and my two golden retrievers, I am a wrestling coach and avid golfer. For many years I had a Science YouTube channel to assist my students' learning.
