With 20 years of experience teaching K–6 students, I am passionate about personalized learning and meeting each child where they are. I strive to build strong relationships with my students to help them develop their strengths and close learning gaps. As a certified reading specialist with training in best practices for supporting students with dyslexia, I am prepared to serve a wide range of learners.
My teaching style is student-centered and structured, with each session tailored to meet individual learning needs and styles. I strive for fast-paced, interactive lessons that maintain 100% student engagement. When appropriate, I incorporate students’ interests to create meaningful and relevant content. I also leverage educational technology to increase student buy-in and enhance learning experiences.
In the fall, a bright student who had always excelled in math came to me feeling frustrated and overwhelmed—struggling specifically with long division and word problems. We began by reinforcing their understanding of basic math facts and breaking down the complex steps of long division into manageable parts, helping to rebuild their confidence. I also introduced strategies to better interpret the language used in word problems, turning confusion into clarity. By May, the student was not only feeling confident again but had returned to excelling in math.
A third-grade student entered my classroom in mid-October significantly behind grade level, struggling to read even simple words and unable to access the curriculum. I provided intensive, targeted support over the course of six months, focusing on foundational literacy skills. As a result of our consistent work together, the student made remarkable progress—growing nearly two full grade levels in reading. His newfound confidence and reading ability have opened the door to greater engagement and academic success across all subjects.
I enjoy travel, hiking, reading, crochet, and playing with my dogs.
