I am a certified Secondary Teacher of Mathematics with over 30 years in Education, as a teacher, advisor, and tutor. I have taught in classrooms, 1-1, remote learning, and even on military bases in the United Kingdom. I have designed custom curriculums to accommodate various learning styles. I homeschooled both of my children, K-12, in conjunction with developing a private business.
I am a patient teacher, who is passionate about Mathematical concepts and helping students through their studies. I adapt my style to meet the needs of the student. I demonstrate each step of problem solving, while inquiring with the student for clarification that they are following along. I will request from a student that they teach me the concept back. I am known to ask why/why not often.
Over the course of the summer, I worked with an eighth-grade student who was preparing to enter Algebra I. Early on, it became clear that her biggest challenges stemmed from foundational skills, particularly working with fractions and converting between fractions and decimals. These gaps made many pre-algebra concepts feel overwhelming and affected her confidence when approaching new material.
Through consistent practice, targeted exercises, and step-by-step problem solving, we focused on strengthening these core skills and building a clearer understanding of how they applied to algebraic thinking. As her fluency with fractions and decimals improved, she became more comfortable tackling multi-step problems and participating more actively during our sessions.
By the end of the following school year, she successfully completed Algebra I with a strong B. Beyond the grade itself, one of the most rewarding outcomes was the noticeable growth in her self-confidence. She began approaching math with a much more positive mindset and greater willingness to engage with challenging problems.
My hobbies include playing tennis, pickleball, long bike rides, hikes, and skiing.
