I am an organized, dedicated tutor with 5 years of tutoring experience and an additional year teaching middle school English. Through teaching essay writing and literature, I guide students to become strong, independent thinkers capable of expressing their ideas. I have a bachelor’s degree in English and Creative Writing from Barnard College of Columbia University and I tutor grades 6-12.

Tutoring Style

I am passionate about helping students write successful 5-paragraph-essays containing a thesis, supporting details, and introductory hook, as well as compare-and-contrast essays. I have developed my own worksheets which show students how to map out the structure of an essay. Additionally, I help students with literature, reading comprehension, grammar and vocabulary. My materials include short stories, articles, grammar worksheets and vocabulary exercises.

Success Story

One of my high school students came to me struggling with his grades in English class. He experienced anxiety when confronted with essay assignments, feeling that he did not know what to write. We worked on multiple types of essays together, breaking down the writing process. For each essay, he would first brainstorm his thoughts, then create a structured outline, and finally, compose the essay. Soon enough, his grades in English class improved and he was no longer anxious about writing! He told me that he felt confident not only in his essay writing techniques, but also in his critical thinking skills.

Hobbies & Interests

Outside of tutoring, I can often be found performing music at a local open mic (I play guitar, piano and sing). I am also a passionate artist, painting in acrylics and sketching in mixed media. I love spending time in nature, with a special preference for the beach!
