I am a certified 7 - 12th grade math teacher, with more than 10 years of teaching experience. The last 8 years have been spent working at some of the top international schools in Brazil. I am passionate about helping students find joy in the process of learning, especially learning math, and love to help my students work their way through problems that at one point seemed impossible.
Building relationships is the core of my teaching style. I want to know all of my students as individuals so that I can find the best way to help them learn. I find that students learn best when having a good time so I always try to keep the feeling light, while maintaining a high level of rigor in the work that we are doing. What matters most to me is that my students are understanding now only how to solve problems, but also the why behind the approaches we use, so that we can continue to build an overall mathematical understanding from the ground up.
There are a lot of different situations that come to mind when I think of success that I have with students. Often what I consider success isn't just an improvement in grade (which is, of course, important), but rather a change in attitude towards math and effort put towards it. I am most proud when I talk to students and hear that because of my class they now feel confident in a subject that they had always felt weak in. That they have the habits and skills to continue finding success in mathematics, and that they find it fun! I have had a handful of students come back to visit me and tell me that math is now one of their favorite subjects and that started in my classroom.
My main hobbies outside of the classroom are practicing, and following, different sports. I regularly play tennis, go running, go climbing, and lift weights. But I also love to cook a nice meal, read a good book, or watch the latest hit anime.
