I am a teacher and former chemical engineer certified to teach Science 8th - 12th Grade. I have 7 years of teaching high school math, science, and middle school technology classes. Because of my experience teaching multiple grades, I also tutor a range of grades in math and science and have been a tutor for the nearly a decade.
I am passionate about math and science at all grade levels, which is evident when I am tutoring. I like to keep tutoring sessions light but focused at the same time, relating to to the student and asking about their well-being outside of academics before focusing on the task at hand. I like to help students by explaining model problems step-by-step, to give them a "checklist" to refer to in order to solve the problem. The student then uses these steps to solve their problems until they have the steps understood and/or memorized. I try to get as much practice as possible to ensure the student is confident in the topic and set up for success in class.
Science: A success story that comes to mind is Gustavo, he was a student that was struggling in physics before he met me. He had failed physics as a junior and needed to pass it his senior year in order to graduate. After meeting twice a week, not only did he go from failing to a B+, his mother told me his confidence grew immensely in other subjects as well. His mother was so happy that she hired me to tutor him in his science classes when he went off to college.
Math: I got hired to tutor my first 7th grader during my 3rd year tutoring. This student had ADD and was struggling to stay focused in math. His parents loved how I was patient with him and built a relationship where he trusted an respected me, which led to a greater focus. He did really well after our weekly home visits that year, which led to me tutoring him in math and science until he graduated high school in 2025! I was proud to see him walk across the stage after knowing what he went though to get there!
