Bonnie

I am a certified teacher with more than two decades of experience in teaching elementary, middle, and high school students. I have tutored both elementary and middle school students in English and Math. I taught Instructional Technology or Computer Education (word processing, databases, spreadsheets, including business presentations) and supported students with Special Education needs.

Tutoring Style

I am an enthusiastic teacher and a lifelong learner. I strive to help students become engaged in their own learning, as it fosters a strong sense of achievement. I have experience co-teaching core subjects such as English Language Arts and Mathematics. I utilize a variety of strategies to engage students, incorporating both traditional methods and supportive math videos.

Success Stories

Math:

One of my favorite success stories is helping an elementary student make significant gains in both his mathematical comprehension and confidence. He developed strong math reasoning skills that gave him the ability to problem-solve. Over time, he continued to build on these skills and became increasingly successful.

Science:

‍I often co-taught in science classes to provide guidance to students who needed additional help and clarification. The subjects ranged from biology to general science topics. I was often surprised by how many students believed science was beyond their grasp. With some added support, students discovered they were more than capable of understanding and completing their assignments. As a result, their self-confidence grew, and they achieved greater success moving forward.

ELA:

Writing is a process that can be challenging for anyone. I often encourage students to write down their thoughts or visualizations—in other words, to capture the words and/or images they see in their minds. I remind them to trust their abilities and get their ideas on paper, knowing that editing will come later to refine their work. When we value our own words and thoughts, writing becomes an effective and meaningful communication tool.

Hobbies & Interests

I enjoy various music genres and love to listen to music and see performers sing. The beach is a place I love to get away to and relax by the water. I also, like to view movies with various meaningful messages.
