I am a student-focused, veteran educator with over 25 years of experience teaching grades 2–7 in public, private, and charter schools. A National Board Certified Teacher and curriculum writer with a strong background in literacy and the arts, I bring both creativity and rigor to my classroom. My approach emphasizes critical thinking, engagement, and equity, ensuring that every student has access to meaningful, challenging learning experiences.
As a tutor, I focus on tailoring lessons to each student’s needs, helping them build confidence, strengthen skills, and reach their goals through clear and supportive instruction. I am patient and creative, always looking for new ways to inspire students and give them an entry point to learning whatever they want to learn.
One of my favorite success stories is when I helped a middle school boy with an IEP show two years of growth in reading in just 9 months. He had several accommodations on his IEP, and one was oral testing. I found that when he was asked a question directly, he could answer it. When that same question was asked with four multiple answer options, he could not pick the correct one. We met twice a week for the rest of the school year, and we worked on unpacking text-dependent questions and ranking multiple choice items. His confidence increased, and his reading level went up 2 grade levels on the STAR benchmark test in the spring.
I love music, anything Broadway, playing the piano, singing, spending time with my dogs, reading a book, shopping, baking cookies, computer games, card games, board games, and puzzles.
