I am a former mathematics teacher and experienced full-time tutor who has been helping students achieve their academic goals since 2015. Since 2020, I have specialized exclusively in online tutoring, providing personalized instruction that makes learning accessible, engaging, and effective in a virtual environment. Over the past decade, I have worked with more than 1,200 students across mathematics, writing, and standardized test preparation. My experience includes helping students strengthen their mathematical understanding, develop effective problem-solving strategies, and improve their essay-writing and academic communication skills. I also specialize in SAT, ACT, and ASVAB preparation, helping students build subject knowledge, develop test-taking strategies, and approach their exams with greater confidence. Whether a student needs support with challenging math concepts, assistance with essays and research papers, or targeted preparation for an important exam, I tailor my instruction to their individual needs and goals. My goal is to make challenging material easier to understand, build students' confidence, and equip them with the skills and strategies necessary for lasting academic success.
My tutoring style is patient, precise, and focused on helping students develop a genuine understanding of the material. I believe effective instruction goes beyond simply showing students how to solve a problem. It involves helping them understand why each step works and how different concepts connect, allowing them to build stronger reasoning and problem-solving skills.
I strive to create a welcoming, supportive, and judgment-free learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions at any time. I recognize that learning is a process, and I am always willing to revisit concepts, provide alternative explanations, and reinforce challenging topics as often as necessary to ensure students develop a thorough understanding.
Above all, I recognize that every student is unique, with their own personality, strengths, and learning preferences. I tailor my approach to each individual, encouraging students to express themselves, participate actively, and learn in ways that feel natural and engaging to them.
My ultimate goal is to help students build confidence, strengthen their understanding, and become independent learners who feel empowered to approach academic challenges with curiosity and determination.
Math:
One of my most rewarding tutoring success stories involved working with an adult student who was struggling significantly in her Statistics course. When she first reached out to me, she shared that she felt overwhelmed by the material and was concerned that she would not be able to pass her final exam. Recognizing the importance of rebuilding both her understanding and confidence, we developed a focused approach to help her prepare.
Over the course of two weeks, we met for several targeted tutoring sessions, reviewing different statistical tests, exploring when and why each should be used, and strengthening her ability to recognize which methods were appropriate for different types of problems. Rather than simply memorizing procedures, I emphasized understanding the reasoning behind statistical concepts and developing practical problem-solving strategies.
As our sessions progressed, I watched her confidence grow significantly. Concepts that had once seemed confusing became more manageable, and she began approaching practice problems with greater independence and assurance. By the time her final exam arrived, she felt prepared to tackle the material that had previously seemed overwhelming.
The most exciting part of this experience was learning that she had not only passed her final exam but earned an A! Seeing her progress from doubting her ability to succeed to achieving such an outstanding result was incredibly fulfilling.
This experience reinforced my belief that patient instruction, clear explanations, and individualized academic support can transform a student's confidence and performance. Sometimes, all a student needs is the right guidance and encouragement to recognize what they are truly capable of achieving.
Writing:
One of my most rewarding writing success stories involves a student I began working with during his freshman year of college. He initially struggled with organizing his thoughts, developing strong thesis statements, and structuring well-supported arguments in his academic papers.
Through regular tutoring sessions, I helped him strengthen his writing process, from planning paragraphs and incorporating research-based evidence to revising and polishing final drafts. Over time, his writing skills and confidence improved significantly, allowing him to approach increasingly advanced academic assignments with greater independence.
Our work together continued well beyond his undergraduate years. After he earned his bachelor's degree, I helped him prepare application essays for graduate school, and we continued meeting throughout his master's program. Today, he is pursuing his doctoral degree, and we still occasionally connect to review and discuss his academic writing.
Watching this student progress from struggling with freshman-level essays to successfully navigating graduate and doctoral-level writing has been incredibly fulfilling. His journey reinforces my belief that strong writing skills, personalized guidance, and consistent support can empower students throughout their academic careers.
Outside of tutoring, I enjoy staying informed about current events and societal issues through podcasts, online articles, and thoughtful discussions. I'm also a passionate NBA basketball fan and love following live games, exploring player statistics and historical records, learning about the league's history, and revisiting classic games on YouTube. In the evenings, I enjoy spending quality time with my spouse, whether we're testing our knowledge while watching Jeopardy!, getting immersed in a British mystery or detective series, or discovering interesting videos that reflect our shared interests. I appreciate activities that spark curiosity, encourage learning, and provide opportunities to relax and connect with others.
