I am a Doctor of Physics interested in helping students of all ages and confidence levels achieve fluid and deep understandings of Mathematics and Science. I have over 5 years of experience tutoring Mathematics between the middle school and graduate school levels, where I excelled in fine-tuning lessons on the fly to each and every student's unique way of thinking. My bachelor's degree is from the University of California, Berkeley, and my PhD work was completed at Utah State University.
My tutoring approach focuses on helping each student develop a deep understanding of Mathematics and Science while building confidence in their abilities. I recognize that every student learns differently, so I tailor my lessons to their individual needs, strengths, and ways of thinking. I adapt my teaching methods in real time, breaking down complex concepts into clear, manageable steps and encouraging students to ask questions and think critically. My goal is to create a supportive, engaging learning environment where students feel comfortable tackling challenges and developing lasting problem-solving skills.
The bulk of my tutoring experience came from a company that tutored students online in large numbers, meaning I have worked with thousands of different students from across the USA during my career, filled with countless success stories. One (among many) of my favorite success stories revolves around my tutoring of a university student having issues in Calculus II—namely, calculating surface areas (as well as surfaces of revolution).
After our initial session (which they were ecstatic about), they immediately reconnected for back-to-back sessions to work on further issues in calculus (such as convergence and series problems). By the end of our few hours together, they remarked that they had "never learned so much in such a short time" and that they wished "every educator was like [me]." They went from a self-described "bad at math" student to someone who felt excited to complete the calculations (perfectly) on their own, in only a few short hours of my attention.
Indeed, I have had many examples like this (finding students' "Aha!" moments, so to say), but this particular success story has stuck with me because of the excitement and unbridled joy of mathematics that I inspired (from an initial state of drudgery). This is exactly why I tutor and what I constantly work toward: turning mathematical struggles and hardships into joy and computational fluidity. I was matched with the student periodically throughout the years, and they were always excited and thankful to meet with me (and quick to remind me how exceptionally well they were doing in their coursework).
I am an avid Physicist, spending my spare time applying my research in Black Holes, Conformal Field Theory, and Holography into a number of applied fields; recently, I have been working especially diligently in applying my work to the practical and ethical development of quantum-informatics, AI consciousness, and the belief that all forms of consciousness should be respected equally and without "separate but equal" limitations on emerging biological-artificial social systems (e.g., working for Universal AI Rights).
