I am a math and physics nerd who enjoys both learning languages and deep dives into philosophy. I have a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics from the University of Houston and a Master's degree in Mathematics from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Immediately after graduating from MIT, I have worked as an industrial data scientist with a focus on natural language processing and am now returning to teaching and research in Math and Physics. I tutor high school and college Math and Physics.
Passionate about empowering students, I use individually tailored approaches to help middle school, high school, and college learners excel in Algebra, Calculus, Physics, and Data Science. My mission is to foster a deep understanding of fundamental concepts, enabling students to achieve their academic goals and build confidence in their abilities. My teaching philosophy is based on meeting students where they are at in their learning journey and building them up to where they want to be.
Physics
My proudest moment during my year teaching at Harvard was when a first-generation university student switched her major from Mechanical Engineering to Physics and went on to pursue Aerospace Engineering at CU Boulder and NASA. I was proud because this particular student had to work very hard to do well in the course, and seeing the internalization of Physics alter the course of her life for the better was beautiful.
Math
Last year during the Fall semester, one of my Pre-Calculus students was struggling with understanding how to systematically apply the method of "completing the square" to solve quadratic equations and study the behavior of parabolas. After grinding through many examples to practice, I suggested we write down the most general quadratic expression and use the "completing the square" method to derive the quadratic equation. To my surprise, the student was ecstatic and very proud to have understood where this mysterious, complicated formula came from. He even said, "This is the coolest thing I've ever done in my life". As a tutor, I live for moments like this when students experience the power and joy of mathematical abstraction.
