I’ve tutored STEM subjects and SAT/ACT since 2019. I went to McGill University where I majored in Mathematics and minored in Life Sciences.

Subjects:

  • Mathematics: Pre-algebra, Algebra 1+2, Geometry, Trigonometry, Precalculus, AP Calculus, Calculus 1+2, AP statistics, intro statistics
  • High School Chemistry + Biology
  • Physics: AP physics mechanics,  Intro Physics 1+2
  • SAT: Mathematics section
  • ACT: Science and Mathematics sections

Ages I've Worked with:

I have experience working with students at the middle school level all the way to AP high school and introductory college courses.

My tutoring style:

Learning challenging concepts, especially in math and science, is never easy, and of course, there’s no shame in seeking help if you’re struggling. This is why I strive to learn about my students and find ways to engage them in the material in a context that makes the most sense to them.

The more I can get students to make real-world connections, the easier it becomes to learn challenging concepts. My goal is to clear up confusing topics and instill students with a love of learning such that they are genuinely fascinated by what they’re learning about and ultimately successful.

Success Story:

A lot of the students I work with don’t realize their capabilities. They begin struggling at some point with a subject like math which relies heavily on foundational concepts. When they misunderstand one of these concepts, it creates all sorts of confusion down the line.

I had a student needing help in her high school physics course who claimed she passionately despised the subject. She wanted to pass the course and move on with her life. Her father wanted to know if she was simply not smart enough and asked me if it would be better if she dropped the course.

Instead, we worked on understanding underlying ideas rather than memorizing formulas and problem types. I discovered some deficits in her algebra skills, which we were able to correct. Once we did this, her natural critical thinking ability could shine, and she went from failing quizzes to solid B’s. This improvement was much more than she could have thought would be possible before we began working together.

Almost all students I work with have similar stories. Once we clear up misconceptions that hold students back, this bottleneck clears up, and they often catch up at a staggering speed.
