Tutoring Style

As a tutor, I focus on each student's needs and thinking style. To do this, my tutoring sessions actively involve the student in the learning process by developing different approaches to solving the problem; this way, I can observe the student's thought process and optimize his/her learning activity.

Success Stories

The first success story I want to share is about a close friend of mine who was in her college years with the goal of going to medical school at the University of Minnesota (which demands almost perfect grades). Since I live in Texas, we had Pre-Calculus tutoring sessions (and Chemistry as well) for one whole semester. At first, she was struggling with these subjects because she had been out of school for a while, and she didn't remember anything about Math (or Chemistry). These sessions were mainly focused on her thought process when solving a math problem; we first achieved the important goal of eliminating the barrier between your potential and problems involving Math (she strongly believed Math was too difficult for her); after this stage, everything was easier for her, and in the end she exceeded all expectations; she is in Medical school.

The second success story happened in Ecuador. I was a Math instructor in the city of Quito. In this opportunity, I had the pleasure of helping a student achieve high-level algebra problem-solving skills to pass the test for the Central University of Ecuador. This student gained so much proficiency in Algebra that he was able to pass this test with high grades and get accepted. In our sessions, we developed not only ways to solve algebra problems but also to do it at a faster pace. To achieve this, we trained on how to read and translate into math equations, which is the most difficult and time-consuming part of these problems.
