I graduated from Metropolitan State University of Denver in 2021 with a bachelor's degree in mathematics and stepped into my own high school math classroom shortly after. I'm currently pursuing my master's degree in secondary mathematics education, with an expected graduation date of August 2027. Throughout my teaching career, I've had the opportunity to work with students of all ages, abilities, and learning styles, which has helped me become a more flexible and well-rounded educator. While my experience spans a wide range of grade levels, I currently specialize in tutoring students from 6th grade through college-level mathematics.
My tutoring style is patient, encouraging, and tailored to each student's individual needs and learning style. I focus on helping students truly understand the why behind the math rather than just memorizing formulas and procedures. I use guiding questions, real-world examples, and different problem-solving strategies to help students think critically and build confidence in their abilities. I also believe in creating a comfortable, supportive environment where students feel encouraged to ask questions, make mistakes, and learn from them. Ultimately, my goal is to help students become confident, independent problem-solvers who realize they're capable of more than they think!
One of my favorite Math tutoring success stories is Jaxon, a College Algebra student who had completely lost confidence in himself and his math abilities. He was so convinced he wasn't good at math that he would second-guess himself before even giving a problem a chance. I focused on breaking down challenging concepts into manageable steps, using guiding questions to help him work through problems independently, and celebrating his progress to rebuild his confidence. Over time, he started trusting his own thinking, approaching problems with a more positive attitude, and realizing that he was much more capable than he had given himself credit for. Watching him regain his confidence and start believing in himself was incredibly rewarding!
One of my favorite Science tutoring success stories was Allie, a high school senior taking college-level chemistry because she wanted to pursue a career in medicine. She really struggled with covalent bonding, so I used a variety of visual strategies, including color-coded Lewis dot structures, molecular models, and diagrams to help her understand how atoms share electrons. As we worked together, she went from struggling to identify bonding pairs and draw Lewis structures to independently drawing molecular structures, explaining single, double, and triple bonds, and confidently working through practice problems. What I loved most was seeing her go from needing step-by-step guidance to being able to explain the concepts back to me in her own words. It was a great reminder that sometimes all it takes is finding the right approach to help a student have that "aha!" moment.
When I'm not tutoring, I spend as much time outdoors as possible! I love hiking, backpacking, rock climbing, splitboarding, sailing, and really just about anything that gets me outside. I live at 10,200 feet in the Colorado Rockies, so there's never a shortage of things to do or new places to explore. I'm happiest when I'm out in the mountains, whether that's tackling a challenging hike, finding a new climbing spot, or just enjoying some fresh air and beautiful scenery!
