I am a test-prep and STEM tutor with over 12 years of experience and 3,000+ hours helping students one-on-one and in small groups, all online. I scored in the 99th percentile on both the SAT and the ACT, hold a master's degree, and am finishing my PhD at Johns Hopkins. I tutor the SAT, ACT, PSAT, and GRE, along with math through calculus ,and science for students from elementary through college.
I teach the way each student actually learns, not one size fits all. I figure out exactly where a student's thinking breaks down and rebuild from there, using named, repeatable methods so they always have a clear process to follow under pressure rather than just memorizing. I keep sessions engaging and judgment-free, because students do their best learning when they feel safe to ask questions and make mistakes. I also work patiently with a wide range of learners, including neurodivergent students, adapting my approach to how each person processes information. Most of all, I care that the learning sticks and that students walk away more confident than they came in.
One student sticks with me. He showed up pretty defeated, sitting at a 21 on the ACT and dead sure he just wasn't a 'math person.' We met for about four months, and honestly I spent less time drilling problems and more time hunting down the exact spots where things fell apart for him, then rebuilding those with strategies he could actually lean on when the clock was running. He ended up with a 30. But the moment I think about isn't the score, it's when it clicked for him that he'd been capable the whole time.
When I'm not tutoring, I'm usually gaming, I love Stardew Valley and the Sims (and I'll admit I enjoy modding the Sims almost as much as playing it). I'm also a huge space nerd, which makes sense since I study planetary science, so I spend a lot of time stargazing and geeking out about anything to do with space. On the calmer side, I love gardening and watching things I planted actually grow. And my Maltese, Rocko, supervises pretty much everything I do.
