I am a career educator with decades of experience teaching and tutoring students across a wide range of grade levels and subjects. Throughout my career, I have had the opportunity to support students in many different academic areas, including mathematics across a variety of levels. My extensive teaching experience has strengthened my ability to adapt to each student’s individual needs, identify areas where additional support may be needed, and make challenging material more approachable. I strive to help students strengthen foundational skills, build confidence, and become more independent learners.
My tutoring style is centered on guiding students toward understanding rather than simply demonstrating solutions. When a topic is completely new, I provide the instruction and foundation they need, but whenever possible, I encourage students to take an active role in the learning process.
I believe one of the most important skills a tutor can have is the ability to listen carefully. Hearing a student explain what they do not understand or watching them work through a problem often provides valuable insight into where they need support. From there, I can ask questions, clarify misconceptions, and guide them toward the solution. I believe active participation leads to deeper understanding, stronger problem-solving skills, and greater independence.
One of my most memorable tutoring experiences was working with an adult student who wanted to enter a teacher training program but was struggling to pass the required math exam. By the time we met, she was feeling discouraged. She had spent considerable time studying independently with math workbooks, but despite her effort, she was not seeing the progress she needed.
Rather than simply showing her how to solve problems, I focused on listening to her thought process and watching how she approached each problem. This allowed me to identify foundational concepts that were not yet solid and recurring mistakes she had been making without realizing it. Together, we clarified those concepts, strengthened the skills she needed, and helped rebuild her confidence.
After our time together, she passed the math exam and earned an impressive score, which she proudly shared with me. Seeing her hard work pay off and knowing that our sessions helped her move closer to her goal of becoming a teacher made the experience especially meaningful. She is a student I will never forget.
Outside of tutoring, I enjoy staying active and spending time outdoors. I am currently training my thoroughbred for eventing competitions, which is both challenging and rewarding. I also enjoy playing tennis in my free time.
