I teach university level Chemistry courses with more than a decade of tutoring and mentoring experience in Math and Chemistry. I have a PhD in Chemistry and I tutor grades 6 through college.
While I am passionate about the topics I teach, I try to step back and begin with the big picture to give context to my student. I then ask questions to understand what they have learned about the topic before diving deeper to help the student understand. I love using analogies in my teaching as I find the right analogy just opens the world.
Math:
I had a student that had failed Trigonometry and it was the only math class needed for his construction management class. His biggest difficulty was the unit circle. We spent hours reviewing it and coming up with different ways to remember the values. After much effort, he passed the class and is now making good money in a construction firm.
Science:
One of my biggest success stories involved a student failing their first exam in Organic Chemistry. That student was in my office nearly every day asking questions and doing additional problems. Their exam scores steadily rose. While their grade in my class was only a C+, their grade in the next semester part of the course was a B+. It was fantastic to see this student succeed and they are now on their way to medical school.
I have one hobby: remote control airplanes. Watching a plane soar through the air under my control is such fun.
