I’m a professional math teacher with over 6 years of experience teaching and tutoring students from middle school through college, including AP Calculus BC, SAT Math, Algebra, and college-level Calculus. I earned my B.S. in Financial Actuarial Mathematics from UCLA and currently teach Algebra I. I specialize in making challenging math concepts clear, intuitive, and approachable while helping students build both confidence and genuine mathematical understanding.
My tutoring style focuses on helping students understand the “why” behind mathematics rather than simply memorizing formulas or procedures. I first identify the specific concept or foundational skill causing difficulty, then adapt my explanations using examples, visual representations, and targeted practice until the student can reason through the problem independently. I use frequent checks for understanding and student work to adjust instruction in real time, while maintaining a supportive environment where mistakes become opportunities to learn. Ultimately, my goal is to build both mathematical confidence and the problem-solving skills students need to succeed independently in future courses.
One of my favorite tutoring successes was helping a Calculus student who had begun to struggle because gaps in foundational algebra and function concepts were making increasingly advanced topics feel overwhelming. Rather than simply working through more Calculus problems, I identified the underlying gaps, rebuilt those concepts through targeted practice, and then helped the student connect them back to derivatives and integrals. Over time, the student became much more confident in approaching unfamiliar problems independently and developed a stronger understanding of the reasoning behind the mathematics. Experiences like this are why I believe effective tutoring is not just about correcting an answer, but identifying what is holding a student back and giving them the tools to succeed independently.
Outside of teaching, I enjoy playing and following soccer, running, cooking and exploring new foods, and spending time with friends and family. I’m also fascinated by how mathematics shows up in everyday life, from sports and games to probability and decision-making. I enjoy working with young people and finding shared interests that make it easier to build genuine connections, which often helps make tutoring more engaging and comfortable.
